My time in Sweetwaters was one that I will never forget. In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus commands his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. Nations can be taken literally or can be taken to mean whatever situation you might be in. While I was in Sweetwaters, The Lord really grabbed my heart when I worked with the mentors and staff of iThemba, one of Restoration Hope’s partner ministries. To say I witnessed the pure joy of truly serving the Lord would be an understatement. In the iThemba team, I saw a joy that I have never seen before - a joy that truly trusted that the Lord was in control of everything. They knew no matter what the outcome might be, it was the Lord's will.
To them, making disciples meant loving on kids in the community, investing time in their lives, and showing what a personal relationship with Christ really looks like. I loved how they believed in meeting the kids where they were both physically and spiritually, and teaching them in a way that encouraged them to take what they had learned and in return give back to their community. From Life Groups, to the running club, to gardening projects, they offered numerous ways to teach kids life skills while sharing the gospel. I feel truly blessed to have witnessed all that The Lord is doing in Sweetwaters and I look forward to the day, whether on this earth or in heaven, that I am able to join in fellowship with these friends again.
